FLORAL DESIGN WITH IKEBANA
Instructor: Thanh Kosen Nguyen ( ht.nguyen@sbcglobal.net )
Learn Wafu Ikebana composition, cutting techniques, use of pin frogs and containers, the five basic patterns, how to preserve cut plant materials and how to display your arrangements. For practice during the first class, bring sturdy gardening scissors, a low-edge dish and a “pin frog.” Information will be given regarding what and where to buy ikebana equipment. A $40 flower materials fee is payable to the instructor, who has 18 years of training in Wafu Ikebana with numerous exhibitions in the Bay Area.

Learn about low-toxic insect and disease control, plant selection and proper planting techniques for perennial borders, irrigation troubleshooting, and proper tool usage. Share questions during open class discussions in this informative class. The instructor has over 26 years of professional gardening experience in zones 15, 16 and 17.

Learn proper care for your summer garden including watering, lawn care and deadheading flowering plants. Minor irrigation repairs, watering alternatives, pruning and planting techniques, tool care, plant diseases and their prevention, and fertilization needs will also be covered. The instructor has over 26 years of professional gardening experience in zones 15, 16 and 17.

In this open lab you will sew at your own pace with individual help given by the instructor. Learn the fundamentals of sewing and its many applications. Sewing machines are provided. Bring a sewing project or mending the first night. $10 materials fee payable to instructor.

Learn techniques to update a contemporary piece or recover an antique. Refurbish your furniture, rebuild old worn springs, change the style and/or bring a chair up to date. Antique techniques are taught when needed.
