BASIC FIRST AID AND ADULT CPR

HIKE FOR FITNESS

Instructor: Mary Bernstein ( marybobcat@yahoo.com )

Hike for strength and stamina while enjoying the outdoors with a congenial group. The instructor is eager to share natural and local history as you walk, talk, explore local trails and revel in the change of the landscape. There will be one organizational meeting Wednesday, April 2, 7:30–8:30 p.m. at Palo Alto High School, Room 306. A schedule of hike locations will be provided at the first meeting; participants must supply their own gear and transportation to the trailhead. Dates may change to accommodate weather. You will be asked to sign a waiver of liability.

PILATES PLUS

Instructor: Jeanette Cosgrove

Improve coordination and fitness by learning to move more intelligently and with greater body awareness. Ms. Cosgrove, a Pilates and Feldenkrais Practitioner, leads you in a series of exercises that gently and effectively strengthen the “core” muscles of the abdomen and back while increasing mobility. Exercises are done on a floor mat. Please bring a foam or camping-style mat and/or a folded blanket.

TAI-CHI—TRADITIONAL CHEN TAIJI AND QIGONG

Chen style Taiji, widely acknowledged as the ancestor of all Tai-Chi styles, focuses on empowering your physical, mental and emotional selves. Take control of and regulate your energy levels and develop the body-mind connection. Increase your physical strength, flexibility and vitality. Improve your body coordination, balance and immune system. Reduce stress. There will be a 30-minute overlap between classes. No class May 26.

WILD GOOSE QIGONG IV, TRIPOD AND SPIRAL

Instructor: Mia Nomoto, RCST ( mnomoto@gmail.com )

Prerequisites: none

Come and learn graceful round and spiral movements, stretching through relaxation, and how to use acupoints to induce Qi flow. Some of the benefits from practicing Wild Goose IV regularly may include strengthening one’s immune system, improving cognitive function, and alleviating common aches and pains. Learning Wild Goose IV may help those that are challenged in doing the stretching and bending movements of Wild Goose I. Mia Nomoto has studied Qigong since 1998 and Wild Goose Qigong with Master Bingkun Hu since 2001. She looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the healing arts with others. No class May 15.

YOGA AND MEDITATION

Discover practices that help bring balance back into your life. Gently stretch your body with yoga poses that cultivate inner awareness. Explore ways to release muscle tension in the lower back, neck and shoulders. Yoga mats preferred but towels are acceptable. Instructor has a certificate from the Santa Cruz Institute of Yoga in Bombay, India.
