The Career Technical Education or short-term vocational offerings include Healthcare Professional Training programs and Computer Training.

The programs below are offered in partnership with Boston Reed College and the following Adult Schools (AS): Palo Alto Adult School, South San Francisco Adult Education, San Mateo Adult School, Sequoia District Adult School and Santa Clara Adult Education.

CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANTS
 

Boston Reed CollegeAssist the physician with procedures, caring for patients, performing simple laboratory tests and administering medications. A Clinical Medical Assistant can pursue employment as a healthcare professional in a physician’s office or clinical setting. This course provides an excellent training opportunity for anyone with a desire to work in the thriving healthcare field helping people.

PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIANS
 

Phlebotomy Technicians draw blood from patients in a hospital, clinical laboratory, doctor's office or clinic. This course prepares students to be eligible to take the certification exam as required by the State of California for working as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1.

PHARMACY TECHNICIANS
 

Pharmacy Technicians assist the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing. This course prepares students for eligibility to register with the State Board of Pharmacy. 182 hours (including 42 hours online training)/120 externship hours.

EKG TECHNICIANS
 

EKG Technicians perform EKG testing, coordinate Holter monitoring and perform stress tests in a hospital laboratory, doctor’s office or clinic. 70 classroom hours.

VETERINARY ASSISTANTS
 

Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarian or the Veterinarian Technician in their daily tasks. Participants learn basic animal care as well as how to examine pets for signs of illness, disease, or injury; workplace safety and hygiene, and how to sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment used in laboratories, animal hospitals and clinics. 35 classroom hours/24 hour student–coordinated externship.

ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORDS (EHR) TECHNOLOGISTS
 

Electronic Health Records (EHR) Systems Technologists can work in many roles such as Workflow Specialist, Clinical Consultant, Implementation Specialist, Implementation Manager, Technical Support Trainer, or EHR System Trainer. Program topics include Introduction to Healthcare, Applied Informatics, Essential Components of EHR & Health Information Exchange (HIE) Essentials, System Selection & Implementation, Fundamentals of Change Management/Project Management, and Human Factors. This program is offered entirely online, with weekly assignments and a weekly instructor-led virtual class. You will complete 216 hours over 18 weeks.
