Every good birder should know about bird taxonomy, adaptations, field marks, habitats and GISS—including our general impressions of the sizes, shapes, postures, flight patterns and behaviors of birds. We will focus on pelicans, terns, gulls, diverse water birds including swimmers, waders and shorebirds, plus neighborhood birds to be found here during the winter. Practice using binoculars and field guides on four Saturday half-day field trips, dates to be announced at the first class. - ADVANCED BIRDING: The Bay Area and Beyond
